Brazil seakan
tidak habis akan sumber daya manusia dalam dunia gambar tempel. Kali ini kami
kedatangan tamu agung dari kota Santos yaitu Vinil Colante yang bersedia
bercerita tentang skena disana. Simak!
Please introduce
yourself.
My name is
Vlaidner known as Colante. I’m from Santos-SP/Brazil and I run Urban ArtProject
named Vinil Colante Arte Ataque Manifesto.
What’s the story
behind your street art name?
I’ve been acting
in the streets for more than 22 years (started with wall writings) and Vinil
Colante project was created in 2006 when I started to produce sticker art. The
project doesn’t limit itself to spray
painting or sticker art. It embraces urban art as something wide and open,
without limits of material, technique or any creative restriction.
The sticker
movement in Brazil is quite similar to what’s happening around the world. This
branch of urban art was always stronger in countries like Germany, USA, Mexico
and the whole Europe, but it’s just like
the waves. It has its ups-several artists workings- and downs – stop being
trendy and a lot of people stop doing it. since I don’t care about trend it
doesn’t matter to me. I’ve never stopped since I started. In my town Santos-
SP, for instance, I’m the only one doing it. There were other artists acting
but they start and don’t stick to the scene and stopping soon. But we have many
artists spread through Brazil mainly in Sao Paulo, Minas Gerais and the south
of the country.
How you make
your artworks, using what kind of technique?
Every single
technique I can reach. For my stickers I use silkscreen, stencil, free hand on
paper, vinyl, customized tags from political advertising labels, mail labels
etc. Limitless.
How did you play
with your stickers on the streets, did you quite often make a collaboration?
I always stick
on my own stickers in the streets. I also stick the work of other artist that I’m
corresponding with by mail. I’ve collaborated with artist from a lot of places
and countries. we exchange stickers. It’s been more than 40 countries.
Quality and
concept for sure. I receiving amazing works but some of the mailed works are so
horrible that they look like shitty works.
Can you share us
your opinion about sticker art?
Sticker art in
my opinion is the evolution (or mix with urban art) of postal art from the70’s
and 80’s. It’s wider now-thanks to the means of communication-and expanded to
the streets where it has developed to this format due to the evolution and
expansion of types of industrial reproduction and the access to graphic
material like printers, paint and sticker support. It’s a very special way to
get an original work of art from an artist you love and lives far from you. It’s
also a way to have your art reaching a different and distant public. It’s a new
kind of art and it will grow more and more. It’s history is under construction.
I sporadically organize a sticker art exhibition here in Brazil called Expo
Colex where people can see urban art stickers from several places of the globe
free of charge. It’s one of the biggest in Brazil. It’s worth knowing.
Terima kasih
banyak kawan. Kapan-kapan kita berjumpa lagi di jalanan dalam satu frame
tentunya. Maju terus skena di Santos. Salam tempel!
