Review Pameran Crusty Creatures 2, Toronto Kanada

Pertengahan Agustus kemarin Toronto, Kanada sebagai tuan rumah pameran stiker Crusty Creatures 2 dipenuhi ribuan gambar tempel yang memenuhi venue acara. Teman lama kami Andres Musta membagikan ceritanya dibawah ini. Seperti apa? Simak!

How was the atmosphere of the expo?
It was a very relaxed event this year. Overall attendance was down over previous years, perhaps because of the heavy rain, but the serious sticker heads came out and we had a good opportunity to relax, socialize, draw and trade. We had works by at least 200 artists on display, so in terms of variety of artwork, this year's exhibition was definitely the biggest - perhaps even too much to digest in one visit.

Are you planning to receive  any feedback from the visitors after they went to the expo?
Feedback is informal and largely done over social media as people post photos from the event, and reflect on what worked or not. As much as we like sharing our love of stickers with everyone, this show in particular felt like it really was for the artists, and we were generally satisfied that most of the big sticker artists from Toronto came by and brought a positive, collaborative mood.

How about your personal opinion about the expo? And others too, like the visitors, your friends etc?
We always wish more people could see it. Much of this show will remain on permanent display at the venue, so many more people will be able to experience it in the weeks & months ahead. A local graffiti/hiphop magazine, Wonderground (http://wondergroundmagazine.com/) came by to document the event for their summer 2016 issue, and some other businesses expressed an interest in showing the sticker panels at other venues. There is a feeling of growth here, with new artists contributing this year, from outside big cities and sending many more stickers from Japan & Indonesia. It is always a thrill to share the art and enjoy people's reactions to it.

Can you share for a lil bit about what's the idea behind the expo?
The idea is simple: I love stickers, and want to share them with everyone. I love to exchange stickers, and often find myself with more than I can ever use. The best way to get them into circulation is to hold an event like this every year or two. I've been lucky to meet other people who feel the same way, and this year's show was a great team effort by PUA69, DEADBOY. GREYOWL, myself, alongside helpers Sofia & Christina & Traviz & Evro. Stickers are made for sharing; as an art form, they draw a community built on collaboration and mutual promotion. We celebrate each others' work. We share techniques, trade stickers, and collaborate on designs. It is a very positive, friendly, and supportive scene, that encourages everyone to express themselves, regardless of their age or skill level. We also take advantage of the sticker gathering to show and sell paintings, prints and sculpture by local graffiti artists. As a result, the show draws a variety of people: writers, graphic designers, skateboarders, fine artists, taggers, of all ages.

Please feel free to use any pics from my flickr album https://www.flickr.com/photos/andresmusta/albums/72157661444213503 Thanks for your interest & promotion of sticker culture!
Masif! Satu kata itu yang mampu menggambarkan betapa dahsyatnya pameran ini. Sekali lagi selamat Toronto! Selamat Crusty Creatures 2. Terima kasih kepada agen intelijen kami Andres Musta. Salam tempel!

Stick It With This One

Bagaimanakah sepak terjangnya? Simak!

I'm This One part of GCAK based in London.

I've had many names over the years, all really bad ones. I didn't really have a name one year because it kept changing it every other week. Basically was just playing with letters finding what I liked. The lads I painted with just started calling me Thisone because no one knew what name I would be using that day, and it stuck.

It’s definitely not what it used to be. A lot of the people that got big from it have moved on to bigger things. There still there and more every day but there nowhere near as much hand drawn as say 5 years ago. There's a lot more screen printed and vinyl stickers around because it’s so easy to get them in London.

My style has changed from being a writer to now artist. I only use black and white no colour and my style is more influenced by tattoo art. Don't get me wrong I love graff but just got bored of using letters. I've used stickers from day one. Sat in my room for hours drawing out piece on anything from bluetop's, DHL's to just A4 sheets and cutting them out, but these days i usually just use eggshell's, Hello My Name is and vinyl. I've just got lazy.

I haven't collaborated on a sticker in ages. The offer just hasn’t come around. I colab a lot when out painting. My main partner in crime is Frankie Strand. She’s got a dope style and we bounce of each over quite well. We recently had an joint exhibition together at Parlour skate store "The Nature Of It" were we paint a load of skateboards. Generally I use stickers as a repetitive image. Get a hello sticker on every lamp post and people will start to notice, just like a tag. The bonus with stickers is you can drop them in places you normally wouldn't be able to get just because it only takes a second. Most areas of London it will stay up till nature takes hold. The buff squad are on it in some areas. That's where egg shells come in.

If your works crap no matter how many you put up its still crap. In saying that some artist are huge and only because there everywhere but they took risks to gain respect. As I've basically just reverted back to only doing tags unless printed I say quantity. Putting one great sticker up that nobody will see is pointless.

Sticker arts great. From just tags to full on designs. It’s quick its easy and it usually lasts longer. There's some great artist that have come from it or use it like Obit, Filth and Grime, Hesher Park and Above. So no way is it a bad thing and I'm sure it will keep going.

Thank you very much Thisone. Cerita singkatnya telah mengantar kita tentang pergerakan stikernya secara individu maupun kolektif bersama teman-temannya di London. Suatu saat kita berjumpa lagi kawan. Salam tempel!

Review Pameran Street Art Rumah Atas Surabaya

Maju terus!
