Review Pameran Shut Up and Get Up

1. How was the atmosphere of the exhibition?
Shut Up and Get Up had a great atmosphere; it was a mix of old and young people.  Because I knew we would have a mix of people some into graff and some into sticker art, we made sure to leave space for those that wanted to add to the exhibit.  I would say the majority of people walked in with a simplistic view of what sticker art was and left with a better understanding of it and a greater appreciation for how artist use the medium to express themselves.

2. Was there any feedback from the visitors after seeing the exhibition?
The feed back has always been great here.  Not much happens in this area so when something does happen people come out to check it out.  People who are into this type of art are usually very happy to see an exhibit going on in their area.  But most of the people are new to it and are happy when they get to walk away with some of it because we always hand out stickers to people that come.

 3. How about your personal opinion about the exhibition?
It’s always a lot of work putting something like this together.  But it’s well worth it.  Getting the support from all the artist and friends from over the years really makes things like this possible and worth all the time you put into it.  It’s interesting to have events like this because it brings out people that you don’t see very often (usually you just see their work on the streets) but being able to catch up with them in person or meet people for the first time is great too. To me, anything that pushes art is always worth getting yourself into.

4. How did you create this event?
This has been the second event that I’ve worked on in this city (I’m trying to do one a year).  The idea for having it in Moreno Valley has always been to help spread sticker art and art in general in an area that really isn’t known for it.  The city is about an hour and a half East of Los Angeles and while having it in L.A. may bring in more people and a bit more hype, it pushes it on people that are already into it and really does help spread it to a new audience.  In Moreno Valley, less people may show up but almost all the people that show up are blown away by how great the art is.  It isn’t just some tags on a 228 which many people think sticker art is, the stuff we display is so full of variety that people really walk away with a different idea of what sticker art looks like.  They walk in thinking one thing and walk away appreciating it for what it is, art.  To me, that is the point of this event and any other future events that I plan to put together, to promote sticker art.
