Kami berkelana ke Negara Kanada
untuk mewawancarai salah seorang penggiat gambar tempel jalanan disana.
Sambutlah, Greyballs Wolfmonkey.
Please introduce yourself.
Hi!
I'm Greyballs Wolfmonkey from Windsor, Ontario Canada.
What's the story behind your street
art name?
My
name started out as a joke. The Greyballs part comes from a Will Ferrell
movie. Usually, I find his movies pretty funny, but this one was kind of
depressing. The only time I laughed was when some kid started harassing
him and calling him Greyballs. The Wolfmonkey part comes from
Twitter. Wolfmonkey was trending one day and I wondered what a Wolfmonkey
was. It means hairy pussy. So, I combined the two terms and changed
my name on Facebook to Greyballs Wolfmonkey. My friends got a good laugh
out of it.
How is the sticker scene in your
city or country?
Windsor
is a small city, so there's not that many sticker artists. Besides me,
the most wellknown is Denial. His stuff is everywhere, so I try and go
where he is not.
How you make your artworks, using
what kind of technique?
I'm
also a collage artist, so a lot of the time I turn my collages into
stickers. But I don't just stick to that method. I have no rules
for myself as a sticker artist. By any means necessary.
How did you play with your stickers
on the streets, did you quite often make a collaboration?
I'm
kind of a lone wolf. I don't hang out with any other sticker artists, and
I'm not in any crews. Mostly, I wander around with my wife and make her
be my lookout, if I'm going to be a couple minutes. Sometimes I'm
targeting a specific place and I may drive there. I do that a lot, like
wherever I'm at, that's where I'm sticking.
What's the most important, quantity
or quality?
Quality
is most important to me. I usually make my own stickers in small batches
or pay someone to make them for me. The ones I make at home don't last
that long in the street, so I focus on making bigger ones at home, for specific
targets. I'll usually employ a company to make my smaller ones.
They are able to make better quality stickers than me. Ones that will
last for years.
Can you share us your opinion about
sticker art?
I
love everything about stickers. I grew up in the late 70's/80's so I
always got them in wax packs and Wacky Packages. I was a skateboarder for
several years and they were a big part of that. In my teens, a friend
started making his own stickers at a print shop he worked at. I had a lot
of fun helping him stick them everywhere. Mostly phone booths as they
said, "Assume This Phone Is Tapped." Later on, when I became a
visual artist, I started wondering if I could make my own. As soon as I
saw one of my designs on a sticker, it was all over. I was hooked.
Terima kasih kawan. Sebuah kebanggan

Salam tempel!
