Review Buku: Street Art Characters

Street art is any art done on a public space and the term include traditional graffiti, stencil, sticker art, vide projection and street installations.  Characters are fundamental in the contemporary street art world and we can find all sort of caricatures made of spray, charcoal, acrylic, markers and also in posters and stickers. This book shows celebrities, monsters, animals, outer space visitors, divas and tramps, the villains and the heroes drawn on the walls of cities such as New York, London and Barcelona.

Tak Cuma Street Art Characters, Monsa juga memiliki terbitan lain seperti buku: Stickers, BCNNYC Street Art Revolution, Street Art, I Love Badges. Menarik untuk diburu!

Stick It With Anton Junkie

Name: Anton Junkie, I own little printing house, print all my sticker by myself, don't have a problems with quantity, that's why I try to do very quality works. I'm use only stickers and posters, I'm start with graffiti and trafart but I'll find sticker art most interesting kind of street art. I Slap it locally in Moscow and other Russian cities and trade worldwide. In Russia sticker art is not so popular as graffiti, and I try to populate it in our country. Respect to all worldwide slappers!

Terima kasih Anton!

Review Pameran Stiker All Stuck Up, Irlandia

Bersua lagi. Bersiaplah.

How was the atmosphere of the exhibition?
ALL STUCK UP was Ireland's first exclusive sticker and paste up exhibition. The main goal was to make it feel more like a party atmosphere than an exhibition. I was personally introduced to stickers through the punk scene, so to this day stickers have always remained a really punk rock thing to me, just like DIY badges and fan magazines.  We purposely made it a one night only show in the hopes of creating a sense of urgently about it. Much like underground punk rock gigs in the 80s, if you weren’t there on the night you missed it. We had live DJ’s spinning records and people were allowed to bring their own alcohol to the show, so a lot of people came and after checking out all the art, just hung out listening to the music drinking beer, and checking out the art again and again. It really did have a fantastic atmosphere, like listening to records in your bedroom while flicking through old graffiti magazines.

Was there any feedback from the visitors after see the exhibition?
A lot of people who made it to the show gave a lot of positive feedback.  For a lot of people it was the first time seeing so many stickers and paste ups in the one place. A lot of people enjoyed the fact they could just sit and hang and drink beer and soak up all the art over a few hours. I think the laid back vibe is what people talked about the most.

How about your personal opinion about the exhibition?
I’m proud of the show. We had no money and no sponsorship. All the money came from our own pockets. The exhibition itself wouldn’t have been anything if all the amazing artists around the globe hadn’t have been so generous with their slaps and stickers. It was a small exhibition but we crammed a lot of stickers onto the walls.  I was happy with the night but feel I can do it better the next time.

How you create this event?
Well I started by using Facebook as a platform to ask artists around the globe to summit stickers for the exhibition. We were collecting stickers for over 5 months before we had enough to put on the exhibition. We mounted the work across 10 4x4 foot wood boards We rented a small punk venue called tenterhooks for one night, got some local DJ’s involved and bam.

Sukses terus Irlandia!

Stick It With NaeSo

Hello there, please introduce yourself.
My artist name is NaeSo, I have always been a graff writer.

What's the story behind your street art name?
Stickers are just another medium to get your name out there. I choose that name because it has personal meaning to myself. But, if you really know me, on a personal level then you would know why I write NaeSo.

How is the sticker scene in your city or country?
Your free to create however and whatever you want I get them up in my city that get me up in their city. It should be a fair trade. I'm from San Diego, California, the States.

How you make your artworks, using what kind of technique?
I use screen printing, computer programs, and good old hand made to make my stickers.

How did you play with your stickers on the streets, did you quite often make a collaboration?
I go out and also trade with different artist locally and globally.

What's the most important, quantity or quality?
For me, it's quality over quantity, especially when I'm producing my art, but when I'm getting up, it quantity over quality, if that make sense.

Can you share us your opinion about sticker art?
Globally, I feel street/sticker art is more accepted and they allow it, but ever here in the States it looked at just like graffiti, unless it's on canvas or in an art show, then they want nothing to do with it. But, we don't do it for them, we do for our self and other artist. If they don't get or don't understand or read it, there is a reason, it's for the selected few.

Yes, itulah sedikit wawancara pendek yang kami lakukan bersama NaeSo. Terima kasih banyak untuknya dan tetap lancar berkarya! Salam tempel!
